Reading & Writing At Idlehurst we utilize a workshop model for our reading and writing blocks.
The workshop model has four main components:
- Mini Lesson - The teacher demonstrates a new topic/skill and the students practice this skill in a group setting
- Status of the class - a quick way to find out what each student is working on
- Reading/Writing time - 20 - 40 minutes of individual reading and/or writing time while the teacher is conferencing with students
- Group Share - Everyone comes together to review the mini-lesson and students share how they utilized the skill during their independent working time
